Keith Lee & Swerve Strickland Title win is Invalid. On this week’s AEW Dynamite special Fyter Fest Week 1. Young bucks defended their AEW World Tag Team championships in a triple threat Tag Team Match; against Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland and Ricky Starks and Powerhouse Hobbs.
The match was a great match and it had a lot of cool moments. As Young Bucks proved why they are the best tag team in the world by performing at top of their game despite being injured. Unfortunately they were unable to retain their championships. Because Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland pinned Ricky Starks to win the gold.
But this marks a confusing part that Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland’s Championship victory is Invalid. Because Swerve Strickland pinned Ricky Starks to win the match but he wasn’t the legal man; it was Matt Jackson of the Young Bucks. If you have watched the match very closely then you will find this mistake; but if you didn’t watch it closely then here is what you need to see.
The 8:15 mark is where the confusion begins. Powerhouse Hobbs tags Ricky Starks into the match. This, despite the fact that Hobbs is clearly not one of the legal men in the match at this point. That was the last “tag” in the match, as Strickland would later pin Starks to win the AEW World Tag Team Championship and cap an emotional victory.
As a result we can say Ricky Starks was never a legal man and Swerve Strickland pinning him to win the Championship doesn’t justify. But now Keith Lee and Swerve Strickland are new AEW World Tag Team Champions. If AEW realises this then this would be a great point for starting a new storyline.
