CM Punk Departure affected AEW Collision Viewership Substantially. All Elite Wrestling recorded the worst AEW Collision data on TNT last Saturday, September 2. The show recorded 345,000 viewers on average and a 0.11 share in the target demographic, as reported by Wrestlenomics’ Brandon Thurston.
As the hours have passed, more data has been known about the audience of that day. There is one in particular that has attracted a lot of attention. The show began after the dismissal of CM Punk became known. A measure that the company took after the events of AEW All In: London. Where CM Punk and Jack Perry had a backstage altercation.
On Saturday, AEW Collision had some tough competition on television. In addition to facing the NFL at the same time. The All Elite Wrestling show competed head-to-head with Payback, WWE’s premium event. However, despite the adversities, AEW Collision got off to a good start, attracting 472,000 viewers .
Records indicate that viewership for AEW Collision dropped to 383,000 viewers after the promo , almost 100,000 viewers less. The show fell below 250,000 viewers at the end of the fourth quarter, which featured Dax Harwood and Jay White.
Some analysts have indicated that part of the audience collapse was due to the absence of CM Punk . The news of the fighter sparked great interest and many were keen to hear Khan’s words. It should be remembered that AEW Collision was created around a series of fighters. Among which CM Punk stood out and his absence could harm the program. For now, we can say that Collision was hurt on Saturday. Time will tell if CM Punk’s absence was the key.
